As far as I can see, this ought to work just fine, but a confirmation would be nice before I order another displayįWIW, I've had a lot of trouble with DisplayPort on higher resolution (>1920 x 1200)monitors. I'm unable to actually find any evidence of this working or not, and I don't believe I'm the first one to try this. The only question is, does this actually work? Has anyone ever tried something like this? DisplayPort 1.2 does 17.28Gbps in total, so again, it should work. On the other end, I'd like to connect everything using DisplayPort and a MST hub. Thunderbolt 1 (for the MBP) has 10Gbps per lane, and two lanes. A 3440x1440 display at 24bpp (or 8 bit per color) and 60Hz would require ~6.64Gbps of display bandwidth. I'd like to verify something, namely if it would be technically possible to run two displays on both devices.ĭoing the math, everything seems to be perfectly fine.

Because I'm doing a lot of video editing, I'm considering upgrading to two LG 34UM95-P displays (so that would become 2x 3440x1440 pixels). I'm also using a desktop with an AMD Radeon R9 290X for games and more serious stuff.

Currently I'm using a single LG 34UM95-P display connected to my MacBook Pro 15' from 2012, a non-Retina model with an nVidia GeForce 650M with 512MB of VRAM.
